Julia Manning, Chief Executive, 2020health, discusses the Health Select Committee’s report, released Wednesday 24th July ahead of Keogh review of urgent and emergency care due in Autumn.

Julia Manning said that it’s a shame the report only highlighted what needs to change within the system. Attendance to A&E has been risen by 17% from 2003 - 2011, so we need to be asking wider societal questions about why this is happening.

For example, Julia highlights that alcohol can account for up to 30% of A&E attendances during the week, and this can rise to as high as 70% at the weekend. How can we prevent this from happening? The public need to be held accountable for any abuse of A&E.
