2020health Report From One To Many

Challenging the assumptions that binge drinking and alcoholics are the main issues for society, this report showed the risks of frequent, excessive drinking were common place amongst 25% of the population. Recommendations were made to combat this worrying trend, including a focus on education and advertising.

Impact:

• Press coverage went global with media reaching readership of >100million (not including broadcast)
• An initial pledge from the Prime Minister on minimum pricing was given, subsequently dropped but in his latest interview (October 2013) revived.
• 2020health were contributors to the Royal College of Physicians report: “Health First: an evidence based alcohol strategy for the UK”, published by the University of Stirling
• The report gained support and responses from Tracey Crouch MP, Chair, All Party Parliamentary Group on Alcohol Misuse and Baroness Hayter, also on the APPG.
• Baroness Hayter, Chair, All Party Parliamentary Group on Alcohol Misuse says “If the government was to heed this report - which might almost be re-named "one too many" - with its emphasis on education, statutory regulation of advertising and increased availability of Brief Interventions, we might see a significant impact on the harm caused by excessive drinking.”

If the government was to heed this report - which might almost be re-named "one too many" - with its emphasis on education, statutory regulation of advertising and increased availability of Brief Interventions, we might see a significant impact on the harm caused by excessive drinking, thus benefitting both individuals and the wider society. Please read it, Mr. Lansley.
